NAS

New Feature

Introducing proxy pooling for NAS

We are excited to announce the NAS Proxy Pooling feature!

This update will streamline your backups by grouping proxies into pools rather than treating them as standalone entities. Existing proxies will be seamlessly moved to the pool. You will see changes in the UI reflecting this improvement.

Here is a quick preview:

For more information, see Create backup proxy pool for NAS and FAQs.

Customer action required: Upgrade NAS proxy to version 7.0.2-526385.

Enhancement

Filter NAS backup sets based on pool

The proxyName parameter in the List all backup sets API is deprecated.

In addition, a new query and response parameter, poolName, is added to filter the NAS backup sets.

For more information, see API reference documentation on the Druva Developer portal.

Customer action required: None.

Updates to NAS jobs APIs

You can now manage jobs for NAS shares using the APIs listed in the Job Management for Workloads section on the Druva Developer portal.

The following NAS APIs that were listed under Enterprise Workloads > NAS on the Developer Portal are deprecated:

  • On-demand backup

  • Cancel backup job

  • On-demand restore

  • Cancel restore job

Customer action required: None.

Nutanix AHV

Enhancement

Alert notifications for skipped backup jobs

We now send a Warning alert with details of the Nutanix AHV backup jobs that are skipped from execution. A backup job is skipped from execution if the client is busy processing other jobs.

Customer action required: None.

Known Issues

Issue

Description

PHN-137652

If no valid backup proxy is available in a backup proxy pool for SMB and NFS NAS backup sets, an error is displayed during an on-demand backup operation.

PHN-137398

If you map a NAS device to a backup proxy pool containing a Windows backup proxy and the NAS device has incorrect credentials, an error message is displayed.

PHN-138377

Unable to delete a Windows backup proxy from the backup proxy pool if the NFS backup set is associated with that backup proxy pool and no Linux backup proxy is available in the same proxy pool.

Similarly, unable to delete a Linux backup proxy from the proxy pool if the SMB backup set is associated with that backup proxy pool and no Windows backup proxy is available in the same proxy pool.

PHN-138120

If a NAS device with invalid credentials is mapped to a backup proxy pool containing both Windows and Linux proxies, SMB shares are not discovered, and no error message appears on the Management Console.

PHN-136739

With the September 2, 2024 release, the existing backup proxies will be assigned to backup proxy pools according to their time zones. The time zone names of the backup proxy pool and the backup proxies within it may differ. For example, a backup proxy with the time zone Asia/Shanghai is expected to be created in a backup proxy pool named Pool_Asia/Shanghai, but the backup proxy pool may get created with a different name.

PHN-136610

Intermittent errors are displayed on the Management Console on the Backup Sets page.

PHN-136568

An intermittent error is displayed on the All Jobs page.

User is not authorized to access this resource with an explicit deny

Workaround: Refresh the page to resolve it.

FLINT-5641

If an on-demand job is stuck in a queue and there are no NAS proxies to process that job, then the backup job fails after 24-26 hours.

Enhancement

Enhanced agent for Enterprise Workloads

We have released an upgraded Enterprise Workloads agent to improve your data protection experience. This agent brings in the following enhancements in security, performance, and data protection measures for Enterprise Workloads:

  • Enhanced security: The updated packages and modules address vulnerabilities and ensure robust security measures.

  • Better performance: The upgraded agent-side architecture leverages efficiency and overall system performance.

  • Insights into data protection health: The enhanced agent collects telemetry data including network, compute, and disk I/O metrics from the protected servers and virtual machines. This data is used to optimize Cloud Services performances and provide you with better user experience and enhanced services.

📝 Note

The enhanced agent is currently available for NAS, File server, and Oracle DTC workloads. The agent support will be extended to other workloads in the subsequent releases.

Customer action required:

  • Upgrade your proxies and agents to the latest version and delete any old or disconnected ones.

  • If you have firewall rules in your environment, you must allow Druva and S3 URLs/IPs based on your deployment region.

  • Configure your antivirus and any third-party encryption programs to authorize the latest Druva applications.

VMware

New Feature

Introducing Threat Hunting for VMware

❗ Important

This capability is supported only for VMware-backed-up resources.

We’re excited to introduce Threat Hunting, a powerful new feature that enhances the security posture and assists in improving security operations and incident response workflow.

With Threat Hunting, Druva offers the ability to hunt for undetected threats that might have penetrated cyber defenses.

Threat Hunting provides built-in containment and remediation solutions to reduce incident response time and eliminate reinfection risks to your VMware backups.

Here’s what you can expect from this latest update:

Key Features:

  • Malware IoC Search: Efficiently hunt for malware Indicators of Compromise (IoCs) within your VMware backups. Quickly identify and assess potential threats

  • Infection Scope and Timelines: Gain insights into the scope of the infection and timelines

  • Quarantine infected snapshots: Automatically quarantine infected VMware snapshots to prevent reinfection and further spread of malware

  • Rich Metadata: Use the rich metadata presented in Threat Hunting results to aid investigation and incident response workflows

Customer action required:

For more information, see Get Started with Threat Hunting.

Azure VM

New Feature

Introducing Long Term Retention for Azure VM recovery points

With Long Term Retention, you can now leverage a policy-based solution to automatically move backed-up data to the cold tier. Configure long term retention for Azure VM recovery points to better manage your enterprise storage requirements as well as optimize TCO.

You may configure Long Term Retention (LTR) on backup policies with the LTR-eligible retention period. A one-year retention is required before you can go ahead and enable LTR, and once enabled you may continue to monitor savings via LTR, and restore recovery points from the cold tier. For more information, see Configure backup settings for Azure virtual machines.

📝 Note

The availability of the Long Term Retention (LTR) feature is limited to Enterprise and Elite editions. To access this feature, contact your Account Manager or Support.

The deleted recovery points are available for rollback for a specific period, post which they are permanently deleted. Administrators can revert malicious or unintended deletes without any loss of data. If your Azure VM recovery points have been intentionally removed, the backup copies will be permanently deleted post the rollback window, and these VMs can then be reconfigured for backup. For more information, see Configure Azure VMs for backup

Customer action required: You need the Security Essentials license to enable Rollback Actions. To obtain the license, contact Support.

Oracle DTC

Enhancement

Database upgrade support

Earlier, an upgraded database would be discovered as a new rather than an upgraded one, resulting in the failure of scheduled backups on the existing database. With the new database upgrade support, when the database is upgraded, it is correctly discovered as an upgraded one, and the scheduled backups are executed seamlessly.

Customer action required:

After upgrading the database, perform the following actions:

  • To avoid failure of scheduled backups, either wait for the scheduled auto-discovery or perform the database discovery manually from the Management Console before taking backups.

  • If you have performed a restore from the recovery points created from older versions or if you have performed a major database version upgrade, run the following commands from the SQL prompt:

    SQL> startup upgrade;

    $ $ORACLE_HOME/perl/bin/perl catctl.pl -n 4 catupgrd.sql

For more information, see Considerations.
