Downloaded files are not getting unzipped.

Problem Description

Downloaded files are not getting unzipped

Error:

Windows cannot open the folder.

The Compressed (zipped) Folder 'Folder Path' is invalid.

Resolution:

1. Check the File Integrity

The file itself may be incomplete, corrupted during download, or damaged on the drive.

Try Downloading

  • If you downloaded the file: Try downloading it again. The initial download may have been interrupted or corrupted.

2. Use a Third-Party Extraction Tool

The built-in Windows extractor is basic and can sometimes fail on large or complex ZIP files, or files created with different compression software. A third-party tool is often more robust.

Recommended Free Tools

Try using a dedicated, free file archiver like 7-Zip or WinRAR.

  1. Download and install a tool like 7-Zip.

  2. Right-click on the file inSync-RMSecurities.zip.

  3. Go to the 7-Zip (or WinRAR) context menu option.

  4. Select "Extract Here" or "Extract to [folder name]".

These tools are often successful at opening files that the standard Windows utility considers "invalid."

3. Rename the File

Although less common, the long file path or special characters can sometimes interfere with the extraction process.

  1. Move the ZIP file to a location with a much shorter path, like your Desktop or the root of the D: drive (e.g., D:\inSync-RMSecurities.zip).

  2. Try extracting it again.

4. Check on different device

You could also try to check the behaviour on a different machine and a different file.
