What is a Backup Profile?

A Backup Profile is a centralized policy that defines when backups occur and how long they are stored. Instead of configuring individual workspaces, you assign them to a profile to ensure consistent data protection across your organization.

Key Capabilities

  • Standardization: Apply uniform RPO (Recovery Point Objective) and retention across multiple resources.

  • Automation: Required for Auto-Configuration Rules to automatically protect new resources.

  • Governance: Manage security features like Data Lock from a single location.

Backup Profile Attributes

The Backup Profile page (Navigate to: Power BI > Backup Profiles) displays the following parameters:

Parameter

Definition

Name

Unique identifier for the profile.

Workload Type

The specific service (e.g., Power BI).

Backup Schedule

The frequency of backup tasks.

Retention

Duration for which snapshots are kept.

Data Lock

Immutable security setting.

Integration with Auto-Configuration

To automate protection, you must link a Backup Profile to an Auto-Configuration Rule.

  • Sequence: Create the Profile first > Create the Rule > Select the Profile within the Rule settings.

See Auto-Configuration Rules for implementation details.

The Backup Profile listing page also allows following actions:
