Troubleshoot volume mounting error

Problem description

While performing a VMware file-level restore (FLR), the following error message is displayed above the directory list within a volume.

Could not mount <number of volumes with error> out of <number of total volumes> volumes.

On clicking the error message, the list of failed volumes is displayed along with the respective error messages.

Cause

The logical disk partition may be a dynamic disk with GPT partition.

Resolution

Since VMware FLR for a dynamic disk with GPT partition is not supported, use Full VM restore or Disk restore to perform the file-level restore in VMware.

Include and exclude filters

Include: VMware FLR, Volume mounting error, GPT unsupported file system.
