Overview
Mozilla Firefox stores user bookmarks, browsing history, and autocomplete data inside a dynamic user profile directory. Protecting Firefox bookmarks ensures seamless user persona migration during endpoint replacements, OS upgrades, or disaster recovery scenarios.
This article provides step-by-step instructions for Druva inSync Administrators to configure endpoint profiles to back up Firefox bookmarks efficiently, prevent false-positive Misconfigured Backup Folder alerts, and restore bookmarks to an active Firefox instance.
Firefox Profile Storage Architecture
Firefox profile data is stored under the user's roaming AppData directory:
%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
Configure Profile Backup Settings in Druva Console
To back up Firefox bookmarks across your Windows endpoints, add a **Custom Folder** rule to the appropriate inSync Profile.
Log in to the **Druva inSync Management Console**.
From the top navigation menu, go to **Profiles**.
Select the **Profile** assigned to your target Windows endpoints.
Click on Edit (top right corner) and Select Endpoints
Open the **Laptops & Desktops** tab and click “+ Add Folder” (to Add Custom Folder).

Preventing "Misconfigured Backup Folder" Alerts
Why the Alert Occurs
If a Custom Folder is added in an inSync profile, the inSync Client expects that directory to exist on every assigned endpoint in the profile.
If an end-user does not have Mozilla Firefox installed (or has never launched Firefox to initialize %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles), the inSync Client logs a warning:
[WARNING] Base folder %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles does not exist. Could not backup {{Firefox Bookmarks}}
This triggers a Misconfigured Backup Folder alert on the inSync Management Console.
To prevent the Alert, ask the user to create an empty folder on that particular path. inSync will back up the empty folder. This will resolve the error during the next backup job. For more information refer to the KB: How to resolve a Misconfigured Folder alert
Verification & Client Log Audit
To verify that Firefox bookmarks are backing up successfully on a client machine:
Open the client log directory:
C:\ProgramData\Druva\inSync4\users\\logs\inSyncClient.log
Search for the custom folder name or path (Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles).
Confirm successful entry logs:
[INFO] Backup started for folder %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
