Download user data

License editions: To understand the applicable license editions, see Plans & Pricing.

Overview

As an administrator, you can download a user's backed-up data to your local device from the Endpoints console. This applies to data protected as device (Endpoint) backups as well as SaaS Apps data under protection. Downloads are subject to the user's privacy settings — if the user's privacy settings do not permit administrator access, the download is not available.

Use this procedure when you need to retrieve a copy of a specific user's backed-up files, for example, to review individual files or folders rather than perform a full restore to the original location.

Before you Begin

  • Permissions: The administrator be a Druva Cloud Administrator or Product Administrator role and must have access to the required user and workload.

  • Confirm that the target user's privacy settings allow administrator access to their backed-up data. If privacy settings block access, the download option is not available for that user. Configure the user data privacy policy

Procedure

❗ Important

When an administrator or a user downloads data, inSync detects the operating system of the destination device and downloads the data in the appropriate archive format. On macOS, data is downloaded in .tar.gz or .tar format. On Windows, data is downloaded in .zip format.

To download User data:

  1. On the Endpoints console, click Users.

  2. Select the user whose data you want to download. You can also start a download from the User Details page for that user.

  3. Click Restore Data, and then select the data source — user device or SaaS Apps under protection — from which you want to download the user's data.

  4. On the Restore Data window, under the Snapshot Viewer section, click the Snapshot Viewer dropdown to view and select the available snapshots. You can filter snapshots by Last 24 Hrs, Last 7 Days, or Earlier.

  5. Browse and select the files or folders that you want to download. Alternatively, use Search to locate specific files.

📝 Note

A quarantined snapshot is marked with a quarantine icon. You cannot restore or download data from a quarantined snapshot.

6. Click Download.

7. The selected data downloads to the default download location on your device.

📝 Note

On Windows, if the compressed ZIP file is particularly large, you may encounter error when extracting it using Windows Explorer. In such cases, consider using an alternative archive utility capable of handling large files or data sets.
