Introduction

Druva provides comprehensive data protection for Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat interactions, helping ensure business continuity and regulatory compliance. Copilot Chat Protection addresses the risk of data loss caused by standard Microsoft 365 retention policies, user departures, or accidental deletion. This section provides an overview of Druva’s support for this feature, including the scope of protection, key capabilities, and required licensing and integration overview.

Key Features

  • Comprehensive Backup: Protects user prompts, AI responses, and file reference URLs.

  • Flexible Options: Supports scheduled automatic backups and manual on-demand backups.

  • Granular Recovery: Allows administrators to restore specific Copilot interaction sessions from a snapshot to a user’s OneDrive account in HTML or JSON format.

  • Centralized Monitoring: Provides detailed insights into backup activities, status, and data usage through the Druva Cloud Platform.

  • Legal Hold: Supports custodian-based legal hold for Copilot interaction data when a user is placed on legal hold. See Legal Hold for Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat.

Scope of Protection

Copilot Chat Protection secures Microsoft 365 Copilot AI interaction history for protected users. The following data elements are backed up by the Druva Cloud Platform:

  • User Prompts and AI Responses: Full text content of user prompts and Copilot-generated responses, organized by interaction session.

  • File References and Citations: URLs of files referenced by Copilot AI in responses, including:

    • Files uploaded by the user within Copilot Chat (stored in OneDrive).

    • Files generated by Copilot during the conversation (stored in OneDrive).

  • Supported Copilot Surfaces: Interactions from Microsoft 365 Copilot default agent and Copilot Lite agent across supported Microsoft 365 apps (for example, Microsoft 365 Chat, Copilot in Teams, Word, Outlook, and other surfaces exposed through the Microsoft Graph aiInteractions API).

⚠️DISCLAIMER

Restoring Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat data to a user's OneDrive is a compliance-level export operation, not a standard user restore. This action may expose AI conversation content including prompts and responses to individuals who were not original participants in the session.
