Configure Druva to protect Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat
Log in to the Druva Management Console as a Druva Cloud administrator and Perform the following steps to set up Druva to configure and protect Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat data.
Step 1: Install Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat Sub app
To begin with Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat data backup, you need to install Microsoft 365 Copilot sub app and authorize it with Microsoft 365 app data access. For more information, see Configure Druva inSync for Microsoft 365.
From the Druva Management Console, initiate the Microsoft 365 Copilot app installation.
When prompted, log in to Microsoft 365 as a Global Administrator.
Review the app permissions requested on the Microsoft 365 login page.
Grant Druva access to the app data by accepting the permissions.
šNOTE: To understand the specific permissions being requested and why they are needed, refer to Get Started with Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat.
About the Authorization Method
Druva communicates with Microsoft 365 services using OAuth 2.0, an open protocol for token-based authentication and authorization. For more information, see the OAuth website.
Support for Entra ID Conditional Access policies
If your organization uses Entra ID Conditional Access policies for authenticating and providing conditional access to users, the app configuration step will adhere to these policies. For more information, see Support for Azure Active_Directory (AD) Conditional Access policies.
Verify Configuration
After you complete the configuration of Druva with Microsoft 365 Copilot app, you can use the Verify Configuration option to check if Druva can access your users. For information about verifying configuration, see Configure Druva inSync for Microsoft 365.
Step 2: Configure a profile
To back up Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat data, you must enable Copilot Chat in an existing profile or in a new profile.
Druva will back up the user data from Microsoft 365 Copilot as per the backup schedule that is defined for a profile with SaaS Apps feature enabled. For information about configuring a profile, see Create and Manage Profiles.
āImportant: OneDrive Dependency for Copilot Chat Attachments
Files shared in Copilot Chat are stored in the user's OneDrive. When Copilot Chat Protection is enabled for a user profile, Druva automatically enables the OneDrive backup workload for that user. Copilot Chat backups retain references (links) to these files, while the actual file content is protected through the user's OneDrive backup.
If OneDrive backup is later disabled for the user, or if the Copilot attachment folder is deleted from OneDrive, Druva can still restore the chat messages. However, the links to the shared files in those messages will no longer be functional because the source files are no longer available in OneDrive.
Step 3: Configure Backup
After enabling Copilot Chat in a user profile, assign that profile to the users you want to protect.
On the Overview page, click Configure Backup to open the Configure Users Backup window. You can configure users using one of the following options:
Quick Configure ā Manually assign a user profile and storage to selected users.
Auto Configure ā Automatically assign a user profile and storage by mapping Microsoft Entra ID attributes.
For detailed instructions on user account configuration and mapping methods, see Configure Druva inSync for Microsoft 365 and Onboarding Guide.
