Legal Hold for Microsoft 365 Copilot chat data

License Editions: For license details, see Plans & Pricing.

Overview

Legal Hold for Microsoft 365 Copilot chat data enables Legal Administrators and Cloud Administrators to automatically preserve all Copilot interactions—both historical and ongoing—for custodians placed on Legal Hold via the Druva eDiscovery Legal Hold feature. This capability ensures that Copilot chat data is retained for eDiscovery and compliance purposes, independent of standard data expiration policies. Legal teams can then export the preserved conversations through multiple channels to seamlessly integrate with external eDiscovery platforms like OpenText and Exterro.

How Microsoft 365 Copilot chat data is put on Legal Hold

When you place a custodian (users) on Legal Hold using the Data Governance > eDiscovery > Legal Hold policy, their Microsoft Copilot chat data is automatically scoped for preservation along with other M365 workloads.
