Get Started with Data Protection of Azure Workloads

Welcome! This guide helps you set up backups for your Azure workloads, such as Azure VMs, Azure SQL databases, Azure Blob Storage and Azure Files.

Understand Azure data protection

Druva delivers a 100% SaaS, true cloud-native protection for your enterprise data deployed on Microsoft Azure . This zero-overhead design minimizes complexity and hidden costs since all backup infrastructure is hosted and managed by Druva, outside of your Azure subscription.

  • Data security: Backups are immutable and logically air-gapped, providing the strongest defense against ransomware and malicious deletion.

  • Complete resilience: Supports operational, disaster, and cyber recovery with full share or granular file and directory restoration.

  • Simplified management: Gain centralized policy, reporting, and alerting in a single dashboard for consistent governance across all file shares.

Get started with Azure Workloads

Set up the Enterprise Workloads Management Console before onboarding your Azure subscriptions.

  1. Create and Manage Administrators and Administrative Groups.

  2. Enable organizations. Alternatively, you may use the Default Organization.

  3. Configure your primary Cloud Storage destination (within Azure and AWS regions).

Onboard Azure Subscriptions

Integrate Azure and grant the necessary access to onboarding your subscriptions to Druva.

  1. Grant Access: Authorize Druva to configure your selected Azure subscriptions. This process creates necessary resources, including an eKey, role assignment, and primary/secondary Key Vaults, to secure your backups with customer-controlled keys. To know more, see Prerequisites to protecting Azure resources.

  2. Register Tenant: Onboard your Microsoft Entra ID Tenant in the Management Console. Review Troubleshooting Azure onboarding issues if you encounter issues.

  3. Automatic Discovery: Druva instantly scans your subscriptions and lists all Azure resources available for protection.

Configure Azure Workloads for Backup and Restore

  • Automate data protection: Create backup policies to define the desired retention settings, and then apply the newly created policy to the discovered Azure resources to configure backup sets for protection.

  • Azure data restore: You can restore Azure data post successful backup to your selected Cloud Storage.

Monitoring and Analytics

Once you have configured your workloads, you can monitor your backup, restore and analytics within the Druva ecosystem.

  • Reports: View the details of backup and restore activities. For more information, please refer to Reports.

  • Dashboard: The global and organization dashboards display detailed information on the latest backup and restore status across workloads, top critical alerts, storage consumption, and savings across organizations. For more information please refer to Dashboard.

  • Storage: Storage provides details about storage consumption and deduplication savings across all organizations. For more information please refer to Storage.

  • Analytics: Analytics provides an aggregate view of credit balance, total source+changes, total current source data, total storage consumed, and dedupe savings across all organizations.

  • Audit Trails: Audit Trails provides a chronological view of all the administrator activities performed on the Management Console, thus enabling organizations to meet data governance and compliance requirements. For more information, please refer to Audit Trails.
