As a Druva Cloud administrator, you can download backed-up Microsoft Teams data from the Druva Console. You can either:β
Download the entire team, including Teams settings, channels, files, tabs, and conversations, as a zipped folder (
inSync-Teamname.zip).βPerform selective downloads for specific channels or data types (files, tabs, or conversations) based on your requirements.β
πNOTE:
If a SharePoint team site or private channel is quarantined, the corresponding Teams data is also quarantined, and you cannot perform a full restore on that data.β
You cannot restore or download data if the associated team site is quarantined.β
On Windows, large zip files may not unzip properly with Windows Explorer; use an alternative utility such as 7-Zip or WinRAR if you encounter this issue.
1. Download Teams metadata
As an administrator, you can download only the Teams settings (metadata) for a specific team.β
Procedure
Sign in to the Druva Cloud Platform Console and go to Microsoft 365 > Teams.
A list of all discovered teams appears.βClick the name of the team whose settings you want to download.β
On the team Summary page, click Restore Data.β
On the Snapshot Viewer page, use the snapshot selector to select the snapshot containing the required metadata. By default, the latest snapshot is selected.β
Select only Team Settings for download, then click Download. The metadata is downloaded as a
<inSync-Teamname>.zipfile containing the following file:βteam_settings.json: Contains the team settings and associated metadata.
2. Download Channels
You can download complete channel data, including files and channel metadata, for a specific team.β
Procedure
Sign in to the Druva Cloud Platform Console and go to Microsoft 365 > Teams.β
Click the name of the team whose channel data you want to download.β
On the team Summary page, click Restore Data.β
On the Snapshot Viewer page, use the snapshot selector to select the snapshot containing the channel data you want to download.β
Select one or more channels.β
Click Download
Select format for conversation (JSON or HTML).
The selected channel data is downloaded as a
inSync-Teamname.zipfile that contains:βA folder for the channelβs files.
A folder for tabs
A folder containing the actual file data (for example,
.pdf,.txt).channel_settings.json: Contains metadata for the selected channels.β
3. Download Files within a Teams channel
You can selectively download folders or specific files within a Teams channel along with their metadata.β
Procedure
Sign in to the Druva Cloud Platform Console and go to Microsoft 365 > Teams.β
Click the name of the team containing the files you want to download.β
On the team Summary page, click Restore Data.
A list of Teams settings and channels is displayed.βClick the required channel, then browse and select an entire files folder or specific files.β
Use the snapshot selector to choose the snapshot containing the required files. By default, the latest snapshot is selected.β
Click Download. The files are downloaded as a
inSync-Teamname.zipfile that typically includes:βA folder structure matching the selected files or folders.
A folder containing the actual file content (for example, .pdf, .txt).
channel_settings.json: Contains metadata for the files within the channel.β
4. Download tabs within a Teams channel
You can download data associated with tabs configured in a Teams channel.β
Procedure
Sign in to the Druva Cloud Platform Console and go to Microsoft 365 > Teams.β
Click the name of the team that contains the tabs you want to download.β
On the team Summary page, click Restore Data.β
On the Snapshot Viewer page, select the required channel, expand the Tabs folder, and select the entire tabs folder or specific tabs.β
Use the snapshot selector to choose the snapshot containing the tab data. By default, the latest snapshot is selected.β
Click Download. The tabs data is downloaded as a
inSync-Teamname.zipfile that includes:βA folder with files for each selected tab (for example, a
pdf tab-JSON idfor a PDF tab).channel_settings.json: Contains metadata for the files within the channel.
5. Download conversations within a Teams channel
You can download conversations from standard and shared channels in HTML (default) or JSON format. This helps you preserve and review business-relevant conversations for investigations, governance, or audits.β
βIMPORTANT
You can download conversations only from standard and shared channels.β
The generated HTML file is not a complete set of conversations due to Microsoft API limitations.β
The HTML export includes only the following message types: plain text, text with attachments, meeting attachments, reference files and previews, and various card types (Hero, Thumbnail, Connector).β
Procedure
Sign in to the Druva Cloud Platform Console and go to Microsoft 365 > Teams.β
Click the name of the team that contains the conversations you want to download.β
On the team Summary page, click Restore Data.β
On the Snapshot Viewer page, click the required channel and expand the Conversations folder to view available conversation threads.β
Use the snapshot selector to choose the snapshot containing the required conversation data. By default, the latest snapshot is selected.β
Choose one of the following:β
Entire Conversations folder: Select the checkbox next to Conversations to download all conversations in that channel.β
Entire conversation thread: Expand the Conversations folder, then select one or more conversation threads.β
Specific message within a conversation: Click a conversation thread to open the Conversation Preview window, then select and download the specific message thread.β
Click Download, choose HTML or JSON format, and then click Download again to confirm.β
Download formats and folder structure
When you download conversations, the data is saved as a inSync-Teamname.zip file containing a folder structure that includes conversation content and metadata. For example, for team ABC with a Marketing channel, the .zip file contains a Marketing channel folder with a Conversations folder and a channel_settings.json file.β
HTML format (default)
Entire Conversations folder or entire conversation thread:
A folder containing a single HTML file with all selected conversation threads and a
channel_settings.jsonfile with conversation metadata.β
Specific conversation thread:
A folder containing a single HTML file for that thread and its replies, plus
channel_settings.jsonwith metadata.β
JSON format
Entire Conversations folder or entire conversation thread:
A folder containing a subfolder where each conversation thread is stored as a separate JSON file, along with
channel_settings.jsonfor metadata.β
Specific conversation thread:
A folder containing multiple JSON files, one per reply in the thread, and
channel_settings.jsonwith metadata.β
