Updated this week

License Editions: For license details, see Plans & Pricing.

As a Druva Cloud administrator, you can download backed-up Microsoft Teams data from the Druva Console. You can either:

  • Download the entire team, including Teams settings, channels, files, tabs, and conversations, as a zipped folder (inSync-Teamname.zip).

  • Perform selective downloads for specific channels or data types (files, tabs, or conversations) based on your requirements.

πŸ“NOTE:

  • If a SharePoint team site or private channel is quarantined, the corresponding Teams data is also quarantined, and you cannot perform a full restore on that data.

  • You cannot restore or download data if the associated team site is quarantined.

  • On Windows, large zip files may not unzip properly with Windows Explorer; use an alternative utility such as 7-Zip or WinRAR if you encounter this issue.

1. Download Teams metadata

As an administrator, you can download only the Teams settings (metadata) for a specific team.

Procedure

  1. Sign in to the Druva Cloud Platform Console and go to Microsoft 365 > Teams.
A list of all discovered teams appears.

  2. Click the name of the team whose settings you want to download.

    3. A folder containing the actual file data (for example, .pdf, .txt).

    4. channel_settings.json: Contains metadata for the selected channels.

5. Download conversations within a Teams channel

You can download conversations from standard and shared channels in HTML (default) or JSON format. This helps you preserve and review business-relevant conversations for investigations, governance, or audits.

❗IMPORTANT

  • You can download conversations only from standard and shared channels.

  • The generated HTML file is not a complete set of conversations due to Microsoft API limitations.

The HTML export includes only the following message types: plain text, text with attachments, meeting attachments, reference files and previews, and various card types (Hero, Thumbnail, Connector).

Procedure

  1. Sign in to the Druva Cloud Platform Console and go to Microsoft 365 > Teams.

  2. Click the name of the team that contains the conversations you want to download.

  3. On the team Summary page, click Restore Data.

  4. On the Snapshot Viewer page, click the required channel and expand the Conversations folder to view available conversation threads.

  5. Use the snapshot selector to choose the snapshot containing the required conversation data. By default, the latest snapshot is selected.

  6. Choose one of the following:

    • Entire Conversations folder: Select the checkbox next to Conversations to download all conversations in that channel.

    • Entire conversation thread: Expand the Conversations folder, then select one or more conversation threads.

    • Specific message within a conversation: Click a conversation thread to open the Conversation Preview window, then select and download the specific message thread.

  7. Click Download, choose HTML or JSON format, and then click Download again to confirm.

Download formats and folder structure

When you download conversations, the data is saved as a inSync-Teamname.zip file containing a folder structure that includes conversation content and metadata. For example, for team ABC with a Marketing channel, the .zip file contains a Marketing channel folder with a Conversations folder and a channel_settings.json file.

HTML format (default)

  • Entire Conversations folder or entire conversation thread:

    • A folder containing a single HTML file with all selected conversation threads and a channel_settings.json file with conversation metadata.

  • Specific conversation thread:

    • A folder containing a single HTML file for that thread and its replies, plus channel_settings.json with metadata.

JSON format

  • Entire Conversations folder or entire conversation thread:

    • A folder containing a subfolder where each conversation thread is stored as a separate JSON file, along with channel_settings.json for metadata.

  • Specific conversation thread:

    • A folder containing multiple JSON files, one per reply in the thread, and channel_settings.json with metadata.
