Overview

As an Druva Cloud administrator, you can schedule automatic backups of Teams or run an on-demand (manual) backup whenever needed.

📝NOTE:

Backups cover Teams metadata and configuration, and channel metadata and configuration.

Files and folders in Teams-backed SharePoint sites, and channel messages and conversations, are protected through the underlying SharePoint Online backups.

For details of what is protected, see Data backed up by inSync for Teams.

Before you begin

Before you initiate any backup operation for Teams, ensure that:

💡 Tip

When a Team is deleted in Microsoft 365, its App Status changes to Disabled in inSync. These Teams are skipped from subsequent discovery and scheduled backups, but you can still restore their data.

Manually Back Up Teams Data

As an administrator, you can trigger a manual (unscheduled) backup of a Team when needed.

  1. Sign in to the Druva Cloud Platform Console.

  2. Go to Microsoft 365 > Teams.
A list of discovered Teams will appear.

  3. Click the name of the Team in Configured Teams tab you want to back up.

    • If the Team is enabled, its detail page opens.

    • If the Team is not configured, you’ll need to configure it first.

  4. Click Backup Now.
Once the backup completes, the Backup Status will update to Backed Up Successfully.

📝NOTE:

  • Due to a Microsoft limitation, file backup information for Private Channels is not displayed. For Standard Channels, Druva shows backed up Files and Conversations snapshots in the Teams UI.

  • You might notice a difference between the timestamp of the Team settings (metadata) snapshot and the channel Files snapshots. This occurs because a Teams backup also triggers a backup of the underlying SharePoint site where channel files reside, so file timestamps reflect the latest SharePoint backup.

❗ Important

If the channel data status shows Never Backed Up, the Team settings backup is complete but backup of the underlying channel data (Files and Conversations) is still in progress. After the SharePoint backup completes, you may need to trigger another Teams backup to see the latest channel (Files) snapshots or restore points.
