Problem description
A user is deleted from Microsoft 365, restored via Druva, and re-licensed. The Druva restore job shows success, but the restored user cannot see the content in their OneDrive directory. This typically occurs when the restore is initiated shortly after the user was deleted and reactivated.
Cause
When a user is deleted from Microsoft 365, the associated OneDrive personal site URL becomes inactive. After the user is restored and re-licensed, Microsoft will not finalize provisioning of the new, active OneDrive site until the user manually accesses it or an administrator pre-provisions the OneDrive account via PowerShell.
Resolution
Steps to perform:
Restore and license:
Restore the user in Entra ID (Azure AD) and assign the appropriate Microsoft 365 license.
Force provisioning of OneDrive:
Option 1 (User-initiated): Have the restored user sign in to Microsoft 365 and manually access their OneDrive site.
Option 2 (Admin-initiated): Pre-provision the user's OneDrive site via PowerShell prior to user login (refer to Pre-provision OneDrive for users).
Initiate Druva restore: Refer Restore OneDrive data
Once OndeDrive is provisioned for the user, start the Druva OneDrive restore operation. Data will then be placed in the correct, accessible location.
Verification
After the OneDrive restore completed:
Confirm the user can open OneDrive in a browser and navigate folders without errors.
Run (or re-run, if previously executed too early) the Druva OneDrive restore.
Ask the user to refresh OneDrive and verify the restored files/folders are visible and accessible in the expected path.
