Troubleshooting MSP Tenant License Quota Management Alerts

Problem description

A discrepancy occurs in licensing quota reporting where system monitoring flags a quota violation for a tenant. This happens when the evaluation engine compares the configured quota threshold against the total provisioned user capacity rather than the live active backup users, flagging a violation even if active backup counts remain within normal operational limits.

Cause

The daily automated quota evaluation job currently checks against the Total Provisioned User Licenses allocated to the organization in the central management portal, rather than the number of users actively running backups. If the configured quota threshold is lower than the total provisioned user allocation, a violation is flagged.

Resolution

To resolve this and ensure accurate tracking moving forward, apply either of the following updates:

  • Option 1: Align the Quota Threshold (Recommended) Adjust the configured quota threshold in the monitoring system to match the total provisioned allocation. Making this update will immediately clear and archive the current alert.

  • Option 2: Adjust Provisioned Allocation in the Portal If the intention is to strictly cap total user provisioning at a specific number, adjust the assigned license entitlement in the portal down to match the intended limit.
