Archive Storage

Overview

As a Managed Service Provider (MSP) administrator, you can leverage the Archive Storage to optimize data storage strategies and minimize total cost of ownership (TCO) for your customers' File Server and NAS data. Archive is an ultra-low-cost storage tier tailored specifically for large files that are rarely accessed or restored but must be protected for long-term future reference or strict compliance requirements.

By utilizing the Managed Services Center (MSC), you can seamlessly provision the Archive feature for individual customer tenants, allowing them to configure targeted Archive backup policies.

Important Considerations

Before enabling the Archive storage tier for a customer tenant, review the following operational impacts:

  • Irreversibility: Once the Archive tier is enabled for a product tenant, it cannot be disabled directly from the MSC console. To revert this action, you must contact Druva Support or your Account Manager.

  • Workload Compatibility: The Archive storage tier is optimized specifically for File Server and NAS data that rarely changes and is not RPO-intensive. It is not recommended for application recovery or business continuity.

  • Retention Minimums: Archived backups require a strict minimum daily retention period of 365 days.

  • Recovery Expectations: Restoring data from the Archive tier takes longer than standard warm storage tiers. Customers must expect a waiting period of 5+ hours to retrieve and restore backed-up data once a restore event is triggered.

  • Licensing Requirements: The Archive feature is limited to Enterprise and Elite editions. It is currently unavailable for AWS Marketplace customers.

Enable the Archive Tier

You can choose to enable the Archive storage tier either while onboarding a new customer or when updating an existing product tenant.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Managed Services Center (MSC).

  2. From the left navigation pane, click Customers.

  3. Select the specific customer for whom you want to provision the feature.

  1. Locate the Enterprise Workloads product tenant section:

    • For an existing tenant: Click Edit.

    • For a new tenant: Click Add Product Tenant.

  2. Scroll to the Add-ons section.

  3. Select the Enable Archive Storage checkbox.

  4. Click Save to confirm and apply the changes.

Once saved, the tenant configuration will update automatically. You can track this provisioning task under the Events log in the Managed Services Center.

Note: Once Archive Storage is enabled, it cannot be disabled within the product tenant. If you need to disable it in the future, you must contact Druva Support.
