Druva Console: Backup Activity Report Historical Data Limits

Druva Console: Backup Activity Report Historical Data Limits

Updated this week

Overview

This article addresses the user's inquiry regarding the maximum date range for downloading a Backup Activity Report from the Druva console. The information is relevant for Druva administrators, IT professionals, and anyone responsible for monitoring backup activities and generating historical reports.

Problem:

Users need to know how far back they can go when generating a Backup Activity Report in the Druva console to download historical data.

Backup Activity Report Date Range

The procedure below describes the date range limitations for downloading the report.

  • Prerequisites

    • Access to the Druva console with appropriate reporting permissions.

    • A subscription that includes Backup Activity Reporting.

Procedure:

  1. Log in to the Druva console.

  2. Navigate to the Reports section.

  3. Select the Backup Activity Report.

  4. In the report generation settings, locate the Date Range filter.

  5. Select a custom date range. The maximum historical period you can select for this report is 18 months from the current date.

Druva's reporting is designed to give you insights into your backup operations and is separate from the data retention policies that govern how long your actual backup snapshots are kept. Your backup data itself can be retained for much longer, sometimes for years, depending on the retention policy you have set up for your backup sets. This is often based on a Grandfather-Father-Son (GFS) retention model, which allows for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly recovery points.

  • Daily backups are kept for a short period (e.g., 14 days).

  • Weekly backups are kept for a longer period (e.g., 4 weeks).

  • Monthly backups are kept for even longer (e.g., 3 months).

  • Yearly backups are for long-term retention (e.g., 3 years or more).

Even if a daily report only goes back 18 months, your actual backup data may be available for restore from a much older date, based on the yearly or monthly retention settings.
