Problem description

While backing up virtual machines from VMware ESXi 4.x and 5.x, the following NTFS warnings are seen in Windows Event Viewer:

  • Event ID 50

  • Event ID 57

  • Event ID 137

  • Event ID 140

  • Event ID 157

Cause

VMware creates temporary duplicate disks while creating a quiesced snapshot. When the duplicate disk is removed, it will show up in the system event logs as errors.
