The backup workflow for Google Drive/Gmail in Druva inSync involves the following steps:

1. Create a SaaSApps profile and enable Google Drive/Gmail for backup

2. Identification and selection of Google Drive/Gmail or entities for backup.

3. Map users to the profile

4. Schedule or manually run the backup

5. Availability of backup data for restore operations as per retention policies.

5. What are the prerequisites before configuring Druva for Google workspace backups?

Before configuring Druva for Google workspace backups, ensure the following prerequisites:

  1. A valid subscription to Druva inSync and appropriate licensing for Google Workspace

  2. An account with Licensed Google Super Admin privileges for initial configuration.

  3. Configure Cloud Key Management to store the encryption key.

  4. Configure a profile to protect GDrive/Gmail data

  5. Associate and add users to GDrive/Gmail enabled Profile

6. What steps are involved in configuring the Google Workspace backups?

  1. Log in to the Druva inSync console.

  2. Click Google Workspace.

  3. Click on the “Add Google Workspace Account” button.

  1. On the confirmation popup that appears, click Configure.

  1. On the Google sign-in page, enter the Google Workspace super administrator's username and password, and then click Next.

  2. On the next page, that appears, click Allow to allow inSync to access your super administrator account and the user's details that are associated with your account.

  1. On the Google Workspace Marketplace page, click Admin Install.

  1. Click Continue on the confirmation pop-up that appears.

  1. On the inSync for Google Workspace dialog box, perform the following steps:

  1. Select the terms of service checkbox, and then click Finish to allow inSync to access your Google account's data. A confirmation pop-up appears after the installation is complete.

  1. On the inSync for Google Workspace has been installed pop-up, click Done.inSync connects to your Google Workspace admin account and can access data of all the users who are associated with your Google Workspace admin account. Once inSync for Google Workspace is installed, perform the following steps:

  2. On the Google Admin Console, click the App launcher icon and navigate to inSync for Google Workspace icon.Click inSync for Google Workspace icon to launch the app in the inSync Management Console.

  1. After the configuration is complete, you are redirected back to inSync Management Console, and you can see the Verify Configuration dialog. In the dialog, you can select a user from the organization to verify the inSync integration with Google Workspace.

Steps to trigger a Manual Backup for Gmail/Google Drive :

  1. Go to the Druva dashboard and click on the "Google Workspace" tab.

  2. Click on the "Gmail/GoogleDrive".

  3. Select the users that you want to backup.

  4. Click on the "Backup Now" button.

  5. Druva will start backing up for the selected Gmail or Google Drive

Steps to trigger a Manual Backup for Shared Drive :

  1. Go to the Druva dashboard and click on the "Google Workspace" tab.

  2. Click on the "Shared Drives".

  3. Click on the Shared Drive that you want to backup.

  4. Click on the ellipsis at the right top.

  5. Click on the "Backup Now" button.

  6. Druva will start backing up for the selected Shared Drive

9. How do I restore a backup for Different Workloads in Google Workspace?

For Gmail Restore :

You can restore

  • The most recent backup

  • A backup from a specific date

Destinations You Can Restore To

  • Same user account

  • Different User Account

  • A different folder on the same mailbox, or a different mailbox (out of place)

  • Download as A ZIP, EML, or PST file

For Google Drive Restore :

You can restore

  • The most recent backup

  • A backup from a specific date

Destinations You Can Restore To

Google Drive data of a user backed up using inSync can be restored at the following locations:

  • User's devices

  • User's Google Drive account

  • Different user's Google Drive account

For Shared Drive Restore :

You can restore

  • The most recent backup

  • A backup from a specific date

Destinations You Can Restore To

You can restore the Shared Drive to the same Shared Drive as “In-place Restore” or “Restore as a copy”

  2. If a Gmail/Google Drive backups are failing with EUSERNOTFOUND , please verify if the user email address is correct or if the user is existing in Google workspace with valid license.

  3. If auto-discovery of Shared drives are not working , please make sure that the configured Super admin has a valid license in Google workspace.
