Upgrade inSync Client Before macOS Update

Provide information about the mandatory inSync Client upgrades required for macOS devices due to Apple's upcoming discontinuation of the Rosetta framework.

Overview

With an upcoming release of macOS version, Apple will officially discontinue support for Rosetta, the translation technology that enables Intel-based applications to run on Apple Silicon devices. For further details, refer to the official Apple notice regarding Rosetta.

As a result, inSync Client versions below v7.2.5 that depend on Rosetta will no longer function on upgraded macOS systems. To ensure uninterrupted backup and restore operations, all macOS users running older inSync Client versions must upgrade to the latest native Apple Silicon-compatible version immediately.

Failure to upgrade before updating macOS may result in complete disruption of backup and restore functionality.

Proactive Warning

macOS devices running inSync Client versions earlier than v7.2.5 will begin receiving proactive system notifications from Apple indicating that the application relies on Rosetta support.

The warning notification displayed on affected systems will appear similar to the following:

❗️ Important

If a macOS device is upgraded to the upcoming operating system while still running an inSync Client version earlier than v7.2.5, all backup and restore operations will fail because Rosetta will no longer be available in the operating system.

Action Required

Your upgrade process depends entirely on the version of the inSync Client currently running on your machine. Please identify your client version and follow the corresponding path below:

User device with inSync Client 6.5.1 and later

You can upgrade directly to the latest native version of the inSync Client.

User device with inSync Client 6.5.0 or older (Step Upgrade Required)

inSync Client below 6.5.1 cannot be updated directly to the latest version. You must perform a two-step upgrade to ensure seamless data backup.

  • Step 1: Upgrade your client to version 6.5.1 first.

  • Step 2: Once the step-upgrade to 6.5.1 is complete and verified, upgrade the client to the Latest Version.

Upgrade Procedures

Organizations can complete this upgrade using any of the manual or automated methods. For detailed information, see Upgrade inSync Client.

Post Upgrade Permissions

Upon installing a newer native client version, the macOS operating system may request specific security authorizations.

To avoid backup disruptions on the updated OS, please navigate to System Settings > Privacy & Security and confirm that Full Disk Access has been granted to both inSync Client and inSyncDataplane.

If you need access to specific installation binaries or require technical assistance during your step-upgrade, please reach out to our Support team.
