Overview
This article addresses an "Access blocked: Authorization Error" encountered when attempting to configure Google Workspace backup in Druva, due to a Google security change requiring explicit trust for third-party apps.
Problem Description
While trying to set up Druva for Google Workspace backup, an "Access blocked: Authorization Error" message prevents the configuration from proceeding.
Cause
The error is encountered due to a security change by Google requiring administrators to explicitly mark third-party applications (like Druva) as "trusted" if they request admin permissions for Google Workspace data.
Resolution
To resolve the issue, we need to enable trusting for the Druva application within the Google Workspace Admin console -
In the Google Workspace Admin console, navigate to Security > API Controls > App Access Control.
Click on "Configure New App."
Select "OAuth App Name or Client ID" and search for "Druva."
Identify the specific Druva app by matching its Client ID with the Client ID in the error message.
Select that Client ID and proceed to mark it as trusted, granting necessary access.
After these steps, the Druva Google Workspace backup configuration should work as expected.
