Unable to Configure Google Workspace Error: “Access Blocked: Authorization Error”

Problem Description:

When attempting to configure Google Workspace backup in Druva, you might encounter an error stating: “Access blocked: Authorization Error.” This issue occurs because Google recently implemented a security change that requires any third-party app requesting admin permissions to be explicitly marked as trusted within the organization's Google Workspace.

Cause:

The security change by Google. The new policy mandates that administrators must explicitly mark any third-party application that requests admin-level permissions as “trusted.” Failure to do so blocks the authorization process, which leads to the “Access Blocked: Authorization Error” when configuring Druva for Google Workspace backup.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, the Druva application must be trusted in Google Workspace by following these steps:

Navigate to Google Workspace Security Settings

• Go to Google Admin Console and log in as an administrator.

• From the Admin Console, navigate to Security settings.

Go to API Controls

• In the Security section, locate and click on API Controls.

Manage App Access Control

• Under API Controls, find App Access Control.

• Click on Manage Third-Party App Access to configure app permissions.

Configure New App

• Click on the Configure New App button to add a new trusted application.

Select OAuth App Name or Client ID

• In the dropdown menu, select OAuth App Name or Client ID.

• In the search field, type Druva.

• This may display a list of several Druva applications.

Identify the Correct Druva App

• Match the Client ID from the error message in Druva with the corresponding Druva app listed.

• Once you locate the app with the matching Client ID, select it.

Mark the App as Trusted

• After selecting the appropriate Druva app, proceed with marking the application as trusted.

• This will authorize Druva to access the necessary Google Workspace resources.

Complete the Configuration

• Return to Druva and continue with the Google Workspace backup configuration. The error should no longer appear, allowing you to successfully set up the backup.
