Error During eDiscovery Client Installation: "You need to enable JavaScript to run this app"

Problem Description

When attempting to install the eDiscovery Client, users may encounter the following error message:

You need to enable JavaScript to run this app

This issue prevents successful installation of the client and may disrupt workflows that rely on eDiscovery functionality.


Cause

The error occurs due to missing or improperly configured prerequisites required by the eDiscovery Client. Specifically:

  • Required .NET Framework version (4.6.2 or higher) is not installed.

  • Microsoft Edge Runtime or Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is missing or corrupted.

Resolution:

To resolve the issue, follow these steps:

  1. Verify .NET Framework

    1. Ensure that .NET Framework version 4.6.2 or higher is installed on your system.

    2. If not installed, download and install the latest version from the official Microsoft website.

  2. Check Microsoft Edge Runtime and WebView2 Runtime

    1. Confirm that both Microsoft Edge Runtime and Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime are installed.

    2. If either is missing, download and install them from the official Microsoft site.

  3. Repair Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime (if installed but issue persists)

    1. Navigate to:
      Start Menu → Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features → Uninstall a program

    2. Locate Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, select it, and click Change.

    3. Confirm the UAC prompt and click Repair to complete the process.

  4. Install eDiscovery Client

    1. After completing the above steps, install the eDiscovery Client and verify successful installation.

  • Before installing the eDiscovery Client, ensure all prerequisites (.NET Framework, Microsoft Edge Runtime, and WebView2 Runtime) are installed and up to date.
