How Druva Storage Increase Works When You Have Multiple Storage Zones from Different Regions

Overview

This article explains how storage increases are managed in Druva environments where multiple regional storage zones are configured. It is intended for administrators and users who need clarity on how additional storage is allocated across different regions. Customer need to reach out to their account manager in order to procure more storage. They can purchase additional users or storage packs to get more storage assigned.

Scenario: You have two or more regional storage zones configured in Druva (e.g., US-east-1 and AP-southeast-1) and want to understand how a storage increase will be applied.

Key Points:

  1. Global Storage Pool Allocation:

    • When you request a storage increase (via additional user licenses or storage packs), the increase is applied to the global storage pool of your Druva tenant.

    • The total licensed storage is shared dynamically between all configured regional storage zones.

  2. No Manual Regional Allocation:

    • You do not need to manually allocate specific storage amounts to each region.

    • The system allows the sum of data stored in all regions to reach the total licensed limit.

  3. Dynamic Distribution:

    • Storage usage in each region is flexible. For example, if your total licensed storage is 100 TB, you could have 90 TB in one region and 10 TB in another, or any other combination, as long as the combined usage does not exceed the licensed limit.

  4. Backup Continuity:

    • Backups will continue to run successfully as long as the total data across all regions does not exceed your licensed storage.

Example

  • If your total licensed storage is 100 TB:

    • US-east-1: 90 TB

    • AP-southeast-1: 10 TB

    • Total: 100 TB (within limit)

  • You can adjust usage as needed; there is no fixed allocation per region.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: Can I increase storage for a specific region only?

    • A: No, storage increases are applied to the global pool and shared dynamically.

  • Q: What happens if one region exceeds the total licensed storage?

    • A: Backups will fail if the combined usage across all regions exceeds the total licensed limit.

  • Q: Do I need to configure anything to distribute storage?

    • A: No configuration is needed; Druva manages the distribution automatically.
