If I am already using Microsoft 365 app, do I have to reconfigure it to protect Groups?

Yes, you have to reconfigure the Microsoft 365 app to protect Groups. You can view Groups even without reconfiguration but some backups or restores might fail if you have not reconfigured Microsoft 365 app.

Which group types are supported?

The following group types are supported:

  • Microsoft 365 groups

  • Distribution list

  • Security groups

  • Mail-enabled security groups

Can I back up private groups?

Yes, you can back up private groups. For more information about backup, see Back up Groups data .

When I back up Groups, does it back up the associated SharePoint sites?

Yes, when you back up groups, the associated SharePoint sites (if configured) are also backed up. For more information, see Introduction .

When I backup groups, does it backup associated mailbox and planner data?

Yes, Group Mailbox and Planner are supported provided they are enabled for your inSync tenant. Please connect with Support if planner or group mailbox is not enabled for your inSync tenant.

Can I restore a group, which is deleted on the Microsoft 365 portal?

Yes, you can restore a group, which is deleted on the Microsoft 365 portal, as a new group only.

What permissions are required to protect Groups data?

Can I restore a group site associated with a Microsoft 365 Multi-Geo tenant to a different geo-location?

No, restoring a group site associated with a Microsoft 365 Multi-Geo tenant restores the data to the same geo-location.

How often are new Groups discovered?

New Groups are discovered once in a 24 hours period - based on the scheduled backup interval. Groups can also be discovered manually at any time.
