Problem Description
If a folder “XXX” and its subfolders on the Windows file server “XXX” were accidentally un-shared, which caused all associated sharing permissions to be revoked.
Since we do not recall the original permission levels (Read/Write or Read-only), how can we understand whether restoring the folder through Druva would also restore the original sharing permissions on the server.
Cause
The sharing permissions were removed directly from the server, not through the Druva Console.
The issue occurred due to an accidental un-sharing of the folder at the operating system level.
Druva does not manage folder-level sharing permissions on Windows servers. Therefore, any sharing configuration changes or accidental removals must be handled from the server side.
Resolution
Druva Support clarified that:
Restoring the folder or its contents using Druva will not restore Windows file-share permissions.
File-share permissions (Read, Read/Write, Full Control, etc.) are not included in the data backed up by Druva.
Sharing permissions must be manually reconfigured on the Windows server after the folder is restored.
