  • Replication

All storage redundancy types (LRS, ZRS, GRS) on the protected file share are fully supported.

  • Network Connectivity

    • Storage accounts accessible via Public endpoints, accessible from all networks.

    • Storage accounts with Firewall rules that allow Microsoft Azure Services to access storage accounts.

    • See Known restrictions and limitations for considerations when using access restricted by a network perimeter, selected networks, or private endpoints.

For more information, see Types of storage account.

Supported file shares

Supported Azure Files SMB deployments:

  • Performance Tiers:

Supported restore methods

Druva supports the following recovery methods:

  • Recovery Scope:

    • Full Share Restore: Recovery of the entire contents of a protected file share.

    • Granular Restore: Recovery of individual files and folders. This capability is also referred to as File-Level Recovery (FLR) or Item-Level Recovery (ILR).

  • Destination Options:

    • Original Location Restore: Restore the entire share or granular items back to the source share, with options for overwrite.

    • Alternate Location Restore: Restore the entire share or granular items to a location different from the original backup.

Alternate Location Restore Flexibility

During an alternate restore, you have the flexibility to modify the target:

  • Destination Options: Tenant, subscription, region, storage account, file share, and path.

  • Prerequisite: The target file share must be created before initiating the restore.

Known restrictions and limitations

The cloud-native Azure Files protection solution is subject to the following functional and network access limitations:

  • Unsupported Protocol: The cloud-native solution does not support file shares using the NFS (Network File System) protocol.

  • Restricted Network Access: The cloud-native solution does not support storage accounts where Public Network Access is restricted by any of the following configurations:

    • Secured by perimeter (Most restricted setting).

    • Enabled from selected networks (VNet/subnet restriction).

    • Disabled (requiring access via Private Endpoints).

  • Unsupported File Properties: The lease property of protected files will not be restored.

  • Unsupported Druva Storage Tiers: Druva does not support Long Term Retention (LTR) or Archive tiers of storage for Azure Files backups.

Alternative Solution: NAS Proxy

To protect file shares using the NFS protocol or storage accounts with network access restrictions, you can deploy the Druva NAS Proxy within your Azure subscription (in the same region and VNet as the file share). For deployment instructions, see How to configure your environment for a private network or public network with restricted access.
