Encrypted files get corrupted
Updated over 10 months ago

This article applies to:

  • OS: Windows 10 Build 1803

  • Product edition: inSync Cloud and On-Premise

Problem description

When encryption is enabled via inSync, the files are encrypted using Windows EFS. Sometimes, the encrypted files get corrupted and users fail to access or open the encrypted files.

Cause

A bug in Windows 10 Build 1803 is known to cause file corruption when the system is rebooted.

Resolution

Microsoft recommends upgrading to Windows 10 Build 1809 to resolve this issue. The upgrade is available from the following link:

❗ Important

The files encrypted before the upgrade must be restored as the already corrupted files do not heal automatically.
