Activate inSync Client on Ubuntu 19.10
Updated over 8 months ago

❗ Important

This article is a workaround to activate inSync Client in Ubuntu 19.10 as Ubuntu 19.10 is not tested and verified with inSync Client as of now. Hence, the product documentation from Druva does not include Ubuntu 19.10 as a supported version yet. It is recommended that you use a supported version of Ubuntu to avoid any issues or repercussions on those versions which are not tested yet. If you still want to use Ubuntu 19.10 and cannot downgrade the Ubuntu OS version to supported versions (14.04, 16.04, 18.04 (64-bit)), read this article further.

Problem description

The following issues are observed when inSync Client is activated on Ubuntu 19.10 operating system:

  • inSync Client application does not launch after installing inSync Client 5.9.5 or other inSync Client versions in Ubuntu 19.10.

  • Unable to see the application under the installed applications list

  • Unable to see logs location

/home/<username>/.inSync/logs directory
/home/<username>/.inSync directory
/var/log/inSyncCloud

Cause

This is because inSync Client supports only the following versions of Ubuntu as of now:

Ubuntu (Unity interface) 14.04, 16.04, 18.04 (64-bit)

Traceback

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

  1. Run the following command to rename the library that blocks the installation and activation:

sudo mv /opt/Druva/inSync/lib/ libfreetype.so.6 /opt/Druva/inSync/lib/ libfreetype.so.6.bk
  1. Activate the inSync Client and initiate backups.
