Overview
The Exterro integration with Druva Endpoints and SaaS Apps enhances legal hold and eDiscovery processes across distributed data sources. It enables direct ingestion of case-relevant data from endpoints and cloud applications protected by Druva. This reduces manual collection efforts and accelerates time to evidence. Legal teams can manage legal holds centrally while ensuring preservation policies are enforced at the data protection layer. The integration improves defensibility by maintaining data integrity and chain of custody. It also minimizes disruption to end users during investigations. Together, Druva and Exterro deliver a scalable, compliant eDiscovery solution for modern data environments.
Here is a step-by-step guide that outlines the workflow for the Druva-Exterro integration, specifically focusing on how to perform In-Place Preservation initiated from Exterro to Druva.
Step | Description |
Step 1 | Create API Credentials in Druva for establishing connectivity between Exterro and Druva. |
Step 2 | Connect Exterro to Druva for integration. |
Step 3 | Create Legal Hold in Exterro. |
Step 1 : Create API Credentials in Druva
Before the two systems can talk to each other, you must create "digital keys" (API Credentials) in Druva.
Log in to your Druva Console.
From the Global Navigation icon on the Cloud Platform dashboard, navigate to the Integration Center.
Select API Credentials and click New Credentials.
Enter a Name and Description, and assign the appropriate Role.
Click Save. Once you click Save, Druva will show you a Secret Key. Copy this and store it somewhere safe; you will need it for the next phase of integration process.
Step 2 : Connect Exterro to Druva
Now, you will use those keys to link Exterro to your Druva data.
Log in to your Exterro Console.
Go to Add Connector and select Druva inSync.
Authentication: Enter the API Credentials you saved from the previous phase to authorize the connection.
Auto-Discovery: Enable the "automatic synchronization trigger." This allows Exterro to automatically find your Druva users.
Verify: Once the sync is finished, check the Data Sources section. You should see your Druva user accounts listed there.
Once successful, you should see your Druva instance successfully connected to the Exterro instance.
Use the secrets acquired from the Druva API Credentials console to configure the Realm.
Step 3 : Create Legal Hold in Exterro
A Legal Hold ensures that data belonging to specific people (custodians) cannot be deleted during legal proceedings.
1. Create Legal Hold
In Exterro, click the New button
Enter the Matter Name (the case name) and select your Legal Hold template
2. Add Custodians
Scroll to the Custodians section and click +Add
Select the individuals whose data needs to be preserved
3. Set the Data Source
4. Issue the Legal Hold
Once the custodians are added via the custodians tab, ensure all other workflow details are correct.
Click Send -> Issue to custodians/NCDS
After issuing the Legal Hold, the status will change to Processing while Exterro tells Druva to lock the data.
Phase 4: Verifying Preservation
Once the hold is issued, you can verify it on both the platforms.
In Exterro
Look for the IPP Name (In-Place Preservation) in the Legal Hold form.
You can view specific details by going to the Actions menu and clicking In-Place Preservation.
In Druva
The Legal Hold created in Exterro is visible on the Legal Holds listing page. Here, you can confirm details such as the creation date and the total number of custodians.
Navigate to eDiscovery -> Legal Hold.
You will see the hold created by Exterro listed here.
Click the Legal Hold to see the list of preserved custodians and their data sources. The specific details of the preserved custodians correspond precisely to the action taken within Exterro.
Accessing the Data: To access the actual files for legal review, navigate to Data Collection & Access in Druva to find the WebDAV URL. You can see the specific files by clicking on the Collection Stream
