Entra ID backups failing due to app status “Disconnected”

Problem description
Entra ID backups are failing because the Druva console shows the Microsoft Entra ID app status as Disconnected.

Cause
The authorization/trust between Druva and Microsoft 365 is no longer valid (for example, token expiry, admin consent revoked, or permission changes). Reinstallation and re-consent are required.

Prerequisites

  1. Druva Console Access

    • You must have Administrator privileges in the Druva console to perform the reinstallation.

  2. Microsoft 365 Global Administrator Account

    • A valid Global Administrator account for the Microsoft 365 tenant integrated with Druva is required.

    • This account will be used to authenticate and grant consent during the reinstallation process.

  3. Permissions and Consent Policies

    • Verify that your organization’s Microsoft 365 consent policies allow admin consent for third-party apps like Druva inSync.

    • If consent restrictions exist, pre-approve the Druva app in Azure AD.

Resolution

Step 1: Log in to the Druva Console

  • Open your web browser and navigate to the Druva Console login page.

  • Enter your administrator credentials and click Sign In.

Step 2: Access Microsoft Entra ID Settings

  • Once logged in, click on the Global Navigation Panel (hamburger menu icon) located at the top-left corner of the console.

  • From the menu, select Microsoft Entra ID.
This will open the Microsoft Entra Overview page.

Step 3: Reinstall the App

  • On the Microsoft Entra Overview page, locate the ellipsis (three-dots) icon in the top-right corner of the page.

  • Click on the ellipsis and select Reinstall app from the dropdown menu.

Step 4: Confirm Reinstallation

  • A confirmation popup will appear asking if you want to reinstall the app.

  • Click on the Reinstall button to proceed.

  • This action will initiate the reinstallation process and redirect you to the Microsoft 365 login page.

Step 5: Authenticate with Microsoft 365

  • On the Microsoft 365 login page:

    • Enter the Global Administrator username and password for your Microsoft 365 tenant.

    • Click Sign In to authenticate.

Step 6: Grant Required Permissions

  • After signing in, you will see a permissions request screen.

  • Review the permissions requested by the inSync app.

  • Click Accept to grant the necessary permissions for Druva to access Microsoft 365 data.

Step 7: Verify Connection

  • After granting permissions, you will be redirected back to the Druva console.

  • Confirm that the App Status now shows Connected.

  • If the status is still disconnected, refresh the page or wait a few minutes for the update.

Step 8: Validate Backup

  • Once the app is connected, initiate a manual backup from the Backup Now button (at the top right side) for Microsoft Entra ID.

  • Monitor the backup job to ensure it completes successfully.

Important Note: Reinstalling the app re-establishes trust and permissions between Druva and Microsoft 365. This is necessary whenever the app status becomes disconnected due to expired tokens or revoked permissions.
