Problem description
Druva has identified a bug in specific versions of the Windows agent for File Servers and NAS workloads. This bug can cause corruption within the Druva SMAP database (metadata). To avoid metadata inconsistencies and ensure successful recoveries, an immediate upgrade is required.
Issue
Older agent versions contain a bug that can lead to corruption within the Druva SMAP database. This database is responsible for managing metadata during backup sets.
Impact: If left unpatched, this issue may result in metadata inconsistencies.
Affected workloads: Windows File Servers and NAS.
Affected agent versions: All versions 8.0.x through8.0.1-907884.
Customer action required
To resolve this issue and prevent potential metadata inconsistencies, you must upgrade to the latest agent version immediately.
How to upgrade
Log in to the Druva Cloud Platform console.
Navigate to Enterprise Workloads > Manage > Agents and Proxies.
Go to File Servers or NAS tab,and select Windows from Filters > Platform to view all Windows agents.
Select the affected File Servers/NAS agents and click Upgrade.
What to expect after the upgrade
To completely clear any potential SMAP database corruption, the newly upgraded agent will automatically perform a full scan of your data during its next scheduled run.
As full scans take considerably longer to complete than standard incremental backups, note the following:
Potential window expiry: Note that the mandatory full scan will not run automatically or immediately after the agent upgrade. Instead, it will be scheduled and triggered from the backend within 7 days of the upgrade. Because this initial full scan can take significantly longer than a standard incremental backup, you may temporarily encounter a Backup Window Expired error if the scan exceeds the configured backup window.
Resolution: If you encounter this error, manually trigger a backup to allow the full scan to resume and complete successfully. After the initial full scan is completed, subsequent backups will return to the normal incremental backup schedule and complete much faster.

FAQs
Is my existing backup data safe?
Is my existing backup data safe?
Yes. Your actual backup data remains secure. This issue strictly affects the metadata (SMAP database) used to track file changes. Upgrading and running the subsequent full scan ensures that all future recovery points remain perfectly consistent and reliable.
Why is a full scan necessary?
Why is a full scan necessary?
To repair potential metadata corruption, the new agent must compare your source data with the stored metadata from scratch. This completely resets and validates the integrity of your backup chain.
Does a full scan impact my credit or storage utilization?
Does a full scan impact my credit or storage utilization?
No. While the agent re-scans all files for validation, Druva’s global deduplication still applies. Only unique or changed data is actually transferred to the cloud, meaning you will not see a massive spike in storage consumption. The primary impact is the time required to read the files locally, not data transfer size.
I have hundreds of agents. Can I bulk upgrade?
I have hundreds of agents. Can I bulk upgrade?
Yes. On the Agents and Proxies page, you can use the checkboxes to select multiple agents and click the Upgrade button.
