Manage CloudCache Storage and Configuration for Dell PowerProtect Data Domain

Updated this week

This feature is currently available under Early Access program. To know more about the Early Access program and sign up for this feature, contact Support or your Account Executive.

Edit Configuration Details

You can add a new Storage Unit or update the credentials to an existing Storage Unit in the DD Storage Units section.

  1. Navigate to the All CloudCache Devices page.

  2. Select a specific device.

  3. Click the Configuration tab. You can perform the following actions here.

    1. Add Storage Unit: To add a new Storage Unit, click Add Storage Unit and enter the following details.

      1. Data Domain Host: Enter the IP address or FQDN of the Dell Data Domain device.

      2. Storage Unit: Enter the name of the target storage unit.

Note: You can attach one Storage Unit to one instance of CloudCache. However, multiple Storage Units can be attached to one CloudCache.

      3. Username/Password: Provide valid Storage Unit credentials for authentication.

        Notes:

        • Credentials are defined individually for each Storage Unit. When adding a new Storage Unit to the pool, you must enter the specific Username and Password authorized to access that unit, regardless of the credentials used for other units in the configuration.

        • Multiple Storage Units create a unified, high-performance storage pool. Data is distributed across all storage units.

        • Once added, storage units cannot be removed individually. Removing them requires decommissioning the whole CloudCache.

  4. In the DD Storage Units section, you can update the credentials of a Storage Unit. If the Storage Unit credentials are modified on the Dell Data Domain console, you must update the credentials on the Management Console to continue protecting your data. Click the pencil icon to update the password.

Manage Upload Schedules

  1. In the Upload Schedule section, click Edit.

  2. Modify the Start at time, Upload Window, or Max Bandwidth.

  3. Save changes to optimize for off-peak hours or network availability.

Monitor CloudCache Health and Status

The All CloudCache Devices page acts as a central dashboard for monitoring the health, status, and utilization of your fleet.

  • Summary: Displays total devices and Total Storage Usage (e.g., 1.42 TB used out of 2.15 TB).

  • Backup Set Configuration: A ring chart comparing workloads Configured with CloudCache vs. Configured Direct to Cloud.

Device List View

The list view provides key metrics for at-a-glance monitoring:

Field

Description

Connection Status

Green checkmark indicates a healthy, active connection.

Storage Used

Displays the physical disk space currently occupied by data after deduplication as compared to the total usable storage capacity.

Note : Ensure that you’re setting a hard limit for your storage units. If the limit/quota is not set, the consumed size statistics may be incorrect.

# Backup Sets Attached

Number of backup sets mapped to the device.

# Unsynced Backup Sets

Number of backup sets that exist on the selected CloudCache but have not yet been synchronized (uploaded) to the cloud. This count is updated every 24 hours.
