Problem Description

Multiple VM backups are failing in the environment.

Error messages indicate failures in opening VDDK handles and disk files, with specific mentions of:

  • Missing guest VM credentials

  • Access rights issues to VMDK files

Cause

The issue is related to the environment’s network configuration.

Log analysis shows:

  • VMware App Aware Processing failed due to unassigned guest VM credentials

  • Access rights issues for one or more VMDK files of the VM

Resolution

  1. Assign guest VM credentials

  3. Check network connectivity and permissions

    • Confirm stable network connectivity between the backup server and the vCenter/ESXi host.

  4. Re-run the backup job

    • After making the above changes, run the job again to confirm successful completion.

If the issue persists:

  • Collect updated logs

  • Escalate to the Support Team for further investigation
