Data Protection Rules

This dashboard enables administrators to create, evaluate, and manage rules that trigger alerts when data protection policy is breached. When a backup failure exceeds your defined Threshold, the system generates a Violation and dispatches a Subscription notification according to your configured Schedule.

Creating a New Rule

To establish a new monitoring parameter, click the New Rule button in the top right corner of the dashboard.

For all rule types, begin by defining the scope:

  • Rule Name: Enter a unique, descriptive name for the rule.

  • Type: Select the specific metric you wish to track (Backup Success Rate or Recovery Point Objective).

  • Workloads: Select the Product category and specific workloads to include.

Note: The Product Category cannot be modified once accounts are added to the rule. To change Product we need to unmap all the accounts.

  • Settings: The settings are based on the Violation Type selected:

Rule Type

Setting Parameters

Backup Success Rate

  • Frequency: Choose the evaluation window (Daily, Weekly, or Monthly).

  • Threshold: Define the minimum acceptable percentage.

Recovery Point Objective

  • Threshold: Define the maximum allowable time or number of failed attempts before a violation is triggered.

  • Save: Click Save to activate the rule and begin monitoring immediately.

  • Cancel: Click Cancel to discard your changes and return to the list view.

Un-map Accounts

To un-map accounts, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to Data Protection Rules.

  • Click the specific Rule Name you wish to modify.

  • Select all associated accounts, click the three-dots, and select Remove Account.

  • Click Remove in the confirmation dialog to finalize the action.

Managing and Modifying Rules

You can manage rules directly from the dashboard using the checkboxes next to the rule names.

Bulk & Single Actions

  • Activate/Disable: Use these buttons to activate or disable the rule.

  • Edit Rule: Available only when a single rule is selected.

  • Delete Rule: Located under the three-dots. This action permanently removes the rule.

Note: Edit and Delete options are disabled during multi-select operations.

Rule Details Page

Clicking a rule name opens a detailed view organized into three summary tiles:

  • Rule Details: Shows State, Type, and key lifecycle dates (Creation/Modified).

  • Applied to (Workloads): Displays the Product and specific Workload types.

  • Settings: Displays the evaluation Time Period (e.g., Daily) and the defined Threshold.

  • Account Management: At the bottom of the Details page, the Accounts section allows you to search for evaluated accounts, view excluded backup sets, or use the Add Account button to expand the rule's scope.
