Welcome! This learning path helps you set up your data protection strategy for your Azure VMs and managed disks.
Understand Azure VM data protection
Druva's agentless backup solution offers robust ransomware protection by seamlessly backing up your Azure VMs to the secure Cloud. It enables the security of your Azure virtual machines within an air-gapped environment, effectively shielding it from unauthorized access and tampering, while allowing for seamless restores. For more information, see Introduction to data protection for Azure VMs.
Review prerequisites and prepare your environment
Druva's Azure data protection solution enables smooth and secure onboarding of your Azure subscriptions.
To ensure a smooth onboarding experience, be sure to assign the required roles and grant permissions to your Azure environment. For more information, refer to our comprehensive documentation on Prerequisites to Protecting Azure Virtual Machines and review the Roles and Permissions.
Onboard Azure subscriptions
Once your environment is set up, you're ready to onboard your Azure subscriptions. To get started with protecting your Azure virtual machines, you must first connect your Azure Tenant to Druva and onboard your Azure subscriptions to the Druva ecosystem. As a part of onboarding, you must assign an administration group and also specify a preferred Storage where your data backups reside. For more information, see Register Azure VM Subscriptions.
To onboard newer workloads, or access certain enhancements, you will need to grant additional access permissions to your Azure environment. For more information, see Update Azure VM Tenant Registration.
Configure and back up Azure Virtual Machines
Setup a backup policy to define how frequently your Azure VM data is backed up and is retained. Then configure backup sets to apply these policies to your Azure virtual machines. You can configure backups with
Manual Configuration: Assign policies manually.
Auto Configuration: Set up auto configuration rules and apply policies automatically.
Restore Azure Virtual Machines
Upon successful backup, you can perform a Full Restore of the VM along with any associated managed disks, or select specific data disks to restore into the virtual machine. To recover files and folders from Azure disk backups to a custom storage container within your Storage Account, proceed with File-level Restore.
