Troubleshooting Druva inSync Client Installation Failures on Windows

Overview

This article describes troubleshooting steps for issues where the Druva inSync client installation fails on Windows endpoint devices, often due to remnants of previous installations or unavailable installation sources referenced by the Windows Installer.

Problem Description

During the installation of the Druva inSync client on Windows, users encountered the following errors:

Error Messages -

Error 1:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Use source: C:\ProgramData\Druva\inSync4\auto-upgrade\MGUASPARI\inSync.msi

Error 2:

The path C:\ProgramData\Druva\inSync4\auto-upgrade\MGUASPARI\inSync.msi cannot be found.

Verify that you have access to this location and try again…

Error 3:

The installation source for this product is not available.

Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.

Cause

The installation errors occurred because the Windows Installer is referencing a missing .msi file from a previous Druva inSync installation or upgrade attempt. This usually happens when:

• The installer is trying to repair or uninstall an older version using a cached path (C:\ProgramData\Druva\inSync4\auto-upgrade\...) that no longer exists.

• Previous installation remnants, such as registry entries or temporary files, prevent a clean install or upgrade.

Resolution

When standard uninstallation methods fail and the above errors are encountered, the following steps can resolve the issue by cleaning up the corrupted installer information:

Step 1: Use the Clean Uninstallation Script

Use Druva’s official script to clean up all residual files and registry keys:

Follow the script instructions carefully and reboot the system after running it. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Run Microsoft Install Troubleshooter

Use the Microsoft tool to fix issues with corrupted or incomplete installations:

Step 3: Reinstall the inSync Client

Download the latest installer from the Druva Downloads Page and run a fresh installation.
