The following are the key components of Azure Files and their relationships:

  • A Customer has one or more Subscriptions.

  • Within a Subscription, resources (including Storage Accounts) are created within a specific Region and are organized into Resource Groups.

  • A Storage Account provides the namespace for one or more file shares.

For more information, see Introduction to Azure Files Storage.

Backup and Restore workflow

The following is the backup and restore workflow for protecting Azure Files.

Step

Description

Step 1:

Install and activate the NAS agent on the Azure virtual machine.

Step 2: Onboarding

Connect or register your Azure Subscription with Druva to enable the backup of resources within it.

Step 3: Discovery

Once the NAS Device (i.e., the Azure Subscription) is added or onboarded, Druva identifies the available Storage Accounts within that subscription.

Define what needs to be backed up. You can backup:

  • Single file share within the Storage Account

  • Specific folders within a file share

  • File Share matching a specific name pattern

Step 5: Backup and restore

Druva uses Azure APIs to perform the backup and restore operations, transferring data between the NAS device (via the proxy) and the Azure Storage Accounts.
