Problem description
Configure backup retention for Exchange Online, Gmail, or Teams Chat.
Resolution
The backup retention policy defines the duration when inSync retains the backup data in storage. To ensure that backup data is available for restoration, you must define a retention policy for your inSync setup.
Under Profile Creation > SaaS Apps > Backup Schedule & Retention, the Data Retention section provides independent retention management for emails and chats.
The Apply same retention for Emails and Chats toggle is available for Gmail, Exchange Online, and Teams Chat backups:
When the toggle is enabled, the same retention policy (configured under Data Retention for Files) is applied to both emails and chats.
When the toggle is disabled, separate retention sections are displayed:
Email data retention – Applicable to Gmail and Exchange Online backups.
Chats data retention – Applicable to Teams Chat backups.
📝NOTE: When the toggle is disabled, Email data retention and Chats data retention default to the same retention period as File data retention. You can change either value independently.
Administrators can configure GFS retention settings independently for email and chat workloads.
