About Tenant Registration

Tenant registration in Druva for M365 is the process of connecting your Microsoft 365 tenant to Druva. This allows Druva to access and protect your data in M365, including Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, and Teams.

To register your tenant, you will need to provide Druva with the global administrator credentials for your M365 tenant. Druva will then request the required permissions to access and protect your data.

Once your tenant is registered, you can start configuring backup and other protection services for your M365 data.

Overall, tenant registration in Druva for M365 is a simple and effective way to protect your M365 data.

Important Recommendations for the Account Used During Tenant Registration:

  1. Use a Dedicated Service Account (Not a Personal Admin Account)
Druva strongly recommends creating a dedicated service account with Global Administrator privileges for tenant registration, rather than using a personal employee's account. Since OAuth 2.0 tokens are tied to the configuring user, if that employee leaves the organization or their account is disabled, the Druva app will disconnect, breaking all backup and restore operations until the tenant is reconfigured.

  2. The Global Admin Account Must NOT Be a Shared Mailbox
The Global Administrator account used to configure Druva with Microsoft 365 should not be a shared mailbox. Shared mailboxes over Graph APIs are not supported by Microsoft, and using one will lead to failures in discovering Groups from Microsoft 365.

  3. Ensure the Account Has a Valid Microsoft 365 License
The Global Administrator account used for registration must have an active and valid Microsoft 365 license assigned to it.

  4. Exclude Druva from Conditional Access Policies
If your Microsoft 365 tenant has Conditional Access policies enabled (such as enforced MFA or Terms of Use), ensure the Druva app is excluded from these policies before registration. Failure to do so may cause the tenant configuration to fail with an "M365 configuration failed" error.
