inSync provides the option to change the user provisioning method from SCIM to Azure AD and vice versa while preserving the user's backed-up data.

After successfully changing the user provisioning method from SCIM to Azure AD, inSync performs backups according to the profile settings.

Advantage of using Azure AD over SCIM for user provisioning.

  1. In SCIM you have to manage an app in IDP.

  2. In SCIM you will have to keep renewing the token after a period of time.

  3. In Azure AD you are not required to manage an app nor you have to worry about token renewal.

Impact of changing the user provisioning method from SCIM to Azure AD

  • Changing the user provisioning method from SCIM to Azure AD has the below impact if the checkbox for Keep existing SCIM mappings option is not selected.

    • SCIM mappings and settings used to manage users in inSync are deleted.

    • User provisioning mode for existing users will be changed to Manual provisioning.

  • Changing the user provisioning method from SCIM to Azure AD has the below impact if the checkbox for Keep existing SCIM mappings option is selected.

    • User provisioning mode for existing users will be changed to Manual provisioning.

Change user provisioning from SCIM to Azure AD

  1. Go to the User page from Endpoints/SaaS Apps console.

  2. Select the User Provisioning tab.

  3. On the summary section, click and select the Change User Deployment method option.

  4. Select Azure as the provisioning method and click Save. A confirm message appears.


❗ Important

All existing users will be moved to manual provisioning mode and will not be mapped to any Azure AD mapping automatically.


5. Select Confirm in the dialog box. A confirmation message is displayed indicating the user provisioning method successfully changed to Azure AD.
