Salesforce data archival, also known as data-tiering, is moving out stale data from Salesforce active storage to another storage.

Salesforce Data Archiver can move data from Salesforce active storage to Druva Cloud.

Quick overview of Salesforce Data Archiver

Here’s a quick video to get you started

Reasons and Benefits of Archival

As the Salesforce data grows over time, it may result in huge stale data. This data still needs to be maintained as it may be required later.

Salesforce Data Archiver can help you with the following:

  • Improve Salesforce org speed and performance

  • Saving on Salesforce storage costs

  • Staying compliant with regulatory and governance needs

  • Securely archive sensitive legacy data

Differences between data archival and data backup

Backup and archive serve different purposes. Depending on your objective, you may need one or both solutions.

Performance enhancement

A large amount of data on Salesforce negatively impacts performance. Identifying stale data and moving it out of Salesforce can improve performance.

Cost reduction

Salesforce storage is more expensive. Moving stale data out of Salesforce can reduce the cost.

Long-term retention of stale data for governance and regulatory requirements

Stale data should not be deleted from Salesforce without archiving them first. You may need this stale data later for governance and regulatory requirements.

Restoring archived data to Salesforce

Data moved out from Salesforce and archived by Salesforce Data Archiver can be restored back to a Salesforce organization.

Viewing archived stale data without using Salesforce

You can download archived data from Salesforce Data Archiver as CSV without restoring it to Salesforce.

Disaster recovery of active data

If the data is deleted from Salesforce due to a human, code error, or a cyber-attack, you can restore a backup to Salesforce.

📝 Note

Data backup contains both active and stale data until the stale data is archived by Salesforce Data Archiver.

Enhanced security and data resilience

What is not supported

The following features are not supported by Salesforce Data Archiver:

  • Archiver does not back up active data, which you need in a Salesforce organization

  • Archiver is not a solution for your backup needs

  • Archiver does not back up metadata

Note: All the limitations listed above are applicable covered by Druva Salesforce Data backup.

Archived data is deleted from Salesforce after it is copied to Druva Cloud. Moreover, the archived data is deleted from Druva Cloud after the retention period. You may want to ensure that you are setting enough retention periods while creating the archiver set.

❗ Important

Review the Licensing Details to understand the available retention period for your license type.

You can use Data Backup if you want to have a copy of active data. Combining Data Backup with Data Archiver will give you complete protection against data loss while also providing other benefits such as saving costs and performance improvements.
