Monitor Jobs for Amazon EC2 Airgap Backup

The EC2 Jobs page on your management console serves as a centralized dashboard for monitoring all UI-triggered scheduled tasks and maintenance activities. Each job is identified by a unique Job ID and holds a specific status, and the job progress can be tracked via the progress log.

To access EC2 Jobs:

  1. Navigate to Monitor > Jobs from the top menu bar.

  2. Click EC2 from the left pane.

  3. Click each tab to view jobs categorized by Backup and Restore.

    • To view backup jobs specific to EC2 airgap backup, click the Backup tab and then select Backup. For more information, see Backup Jobs.

    • To view restore jobs specific to EC2 airgap backup, click the Restore tab and then select From Storage. For more information, see Restore Jobs.

Filters

You can filter jobs by Account, Region, Status, and Job Created In. You can apply one or more filters to view individual jobs and associated logs within the selected job category.

You can use one or more of the following filters:

  • Jobs Created In: You can filter jobs that were initiated in the:

    • Last 24 hours

    • Last 7 days

    • Last 1 month

    • Date Range: Specify a custom date range.

  • Account: The AWS Account to filter jobs triggered within a specific account.

  • Region: The AWS Region to filter jobs triggered within a specific region.

  • Status: The Status filter allows you to filter jobs based on their statuses.

    • Queued: The triggered jobs that are waiting to be processed.

    • Running: The jobs that are being processed.

    • Successful: The jobs processed without any errors.

    • Successful with errors: The jobs that are processed but have some errors.

    • Canceled: The jobs that were canceled.

    • Skipped: The jobs that did not start within the scheduled window because another job is in progress.

    • Backup window expired: The list of jobs that cannot be completed because the entire data set was not backed up within the specified duration, and a recovery point was not created.

    • Failed: The jobs that were not processed successfully.

Backup Jobs

To access EC2 Backup Jobs:

  1. Navigate to Monitor > Jobs from the top menu bar.

  2. Click EC2 from the left pane. The Backup tab displays all backup jobs.

  3. Select Backup to view jobs specific to EC2 Airgap Backup.

    Alternatively, you may navigate to the Snapshot tab to view EC2 jobs that are triggered as part of snapshot orchestration.

The Backup jobs table displays the following information associated with each job:

  • Job ID: A unique identification number associated with the backup job.

  • Resource Name: The name of the Resource associated with the backup job.

  • Resource ID: The Resource ID associated with the backup job.

  • Account: The AWS Account on which the job is triggered.

  • Region: The AWS Region in which a backup job is triggered.

  • Start Time: The time when the job was initiated,

  • End Time: The time when the operation is complete.

  • Status: The current status of each job.

Job Details

Click the Job ID to view the job details based on the job type, and the associated job Logs.

The Summary tab includes following sections:

  • Job Details: Provides a brief summary of the Job:

    • Job Type: The type of job executed, that is, Backup or Restore.

    • Backup Policy: The backup policy associated with the backup set.

    • Status. You can view the job Status, and ascertain the backup job progress with the percentage completion.

    • Resource Name and Resource ID: The name and ID of the Resource associated with the backup job.

    • Start Time and End Time: The time when the job was initiated, and the time when the operation stopped.

  • Data Estimation: Provides information on source files for Backup jobs.

    • Source Data Scanned: The amount of data scanned at the source for the backup.

    • # Volume Added: The total number of EBS volumes that were added as compared to the previous backup.

    • # Volume Removed: The total number of EBS volumes that were removed as compared to the previous backup.

    • # Volume Changed: The total number of EBS volumes that changed as compared to the previous backup.

    • Time Taken for Estimation: The approximate time taken to scan the data. This estimated time does not include network retry time.

  • Data Transfer: Provides information on backup speeds and bandwidth:

    • Data Transferred to Cloud (in GB): The incremental data backed up to Cloud post deduplication and compression.

    • Backup Duration: The total time taken to upload data to Cloud. Backup duration excludes the estimation time and network retry time.

    • Backup Speed: The rate at which the data is uploaded to Storage.

Logs

Administrators can monitor progress of the backup and restore jobs using the progress logs generated during the job. Log files help analyze and troubleshoot issues encountered while performing a task. You can share the logs with the Support team to aid in issue resolution.

Restore Jobs

To access EC2 Restore Jobs:

  1. Navigate to Monitor > Jobs from the top menu bar,

  2. Click EC2 from the left pane. The Restore tab displays restore jobs.

  3. Select From Storage to view restore jobs specific to EC2 Airgap Backup.

    Alternatively, you may navigate to the From AWS tab to view EC2 jobs that are triggered as part of snapshot orchestration.

The Restore jobs table displays the following information associated with each job:

  • Job ID: A unique identification number associated with the job.

  • Resource Name: The name of the Resource associated with the restore job.

  • Resource ID: The Resource associated with the restore job.

  • Account: The AWS Account on which the job is triggered.

  • Region: The AWS Region in which a restore job is triggered.

  • Restore Type: The type of restore initiated by the job, for example, Full Restore.

  • Start Time: The time when the job was initiated,

  • End Time: The time when the operation is complete.

  • Status: The current status of each job.

    • Restore Type: The type of restore initiated by the job, for example, Full Restore.

    • Resource Name and Resource ID: The name and ID of the Resource associated with the restore job.

    • Start Time and End Time: The time when the job was initiated, and the time when the operation stopped.

  • Restore Location: Provides information on data recovery and destination for Restore and FLR jobs.

    • AWS Account: The AWS Account in which the Recovery Point resides.

    • Region: The Source Region in which the recovery point resides.

    • Subnet: The Subnet associated with the restored EC2 instance or EBS volume.

    • Instance Name and Instance ID: The name and ID of the Restored instance.

    • Bucket Name and File Path: The destination S3 bucket and the directory path of the restored files. This applies only to FLR jobs.

  • Data Transfer: Provides information on restore speeds and bandwidth for restore jobs.

    • Restored Data: The total volume of data restored (in GB).

    • Restore Duration: The total time taken to upload data to Cloud. Restore duration excludes the estimation time and network retry time.

    • Job Speed: The rate at which the backup data is restored to the restore destination in GB/hr).

  • Restore Scan Details: Provides information on jobs triggered as part of Cyber Recovery, when a Restore Scan is initiated. For more information, see Restore EC2 and EBS backups with Cyber Recovery.

    • Scan Job ID: The unique ID of the restore scan job.

    • Start Time: The time when the restore scan was initiated.

    • End Time: The time when the scan operation completes. If the job fails or is cancelled, this field displays that timestamp.
      ​Note: The Recovery point timestamp for this job reflects the local timezone of the administrator account that initiated the job.

    • Allow Restore of recovery point: This displays as Enabled if the Allow restore of recovery point even if malicious files are found checkbox is selected when the Restore Scan is initiated. If enabled at restore, the job proceeds even if the scan results indicate malicious file matches.

    • Scan Job Status: The current status of the restore scan job.

    • Scan Result:

    • File Matches Found: Indicates the number of malicious files detected as part of the restore scan. Click the number to view details of the malicious files or download the scan report for further investigation.

    • Files Scan Skipped: The total count of files that were skipped during the restore scan. This typically occurs if the files are deleted or inaccessible.

    • Files Scanned: The number of files scanned as part of the restore scan.

Logs

Administrators can monitor progress of the backup and restore jobs using the progress logs generated during the job. Log files help analyze and troubleshoot issues encountered while performing a task. You can share the logs with the Support team to aid in issue resolution.
