Prerequisites for configuring Proxmox VMs
Decide to use the default or create a new administrative group.
Administrative groups are formed to simplify server management. It is a logical categorization of servers and virtual machines that share similar attributes. Servers can be grouped based on similar attributes like server type, server location, and operating system.Decide to use the default or create a new backup policy.
A backup policy is a set of rules that defines the schedule for automatic backups that occur on virtual machines configured for backup.
See, Manage backup policy.Understand the discovery of virtual machines. Druva supports the following:
Automated periodic refresh: The list of discovered VMs is automatically refreshed every 24 hours.
Manual refresh: You can update the VMs list at any time by clicking the Discover VMs button on the All Virtual Machines page
Discovery during registration: When a new backup proxy is registered, a discovery cycle runs automatically to list all VMs within that cluster.
Procedure
Log in to the Management Console.
From the top menu bar, select your organization if organizations are enabled.
Click Protect > Proxmox.
The All Nodes page appears that lists all the registered nodes/clusters.Select the registered node/cluster from the Node list in the left navigation pane.
You can click Discover VMs. This will trigger the VM discovery for the nodes, and the discovery process may take some time to complete. Hover over the Discover VMs button to view the
Last Discovery Runtimestamp and verify the most recent update.
Click Proceed to view the list of virtual machines on the All Virtual Machines list.
When VM discovery is triggered successfully, the following message is displayed:
VM Discovery triggered successfully. Refresh the page after some time to view the discovered VMs.
If discovery is already in progress on the same node, a different node within a cluster, or on a standalone node, clicking Refresh will display the following message:
Discovery is already in progress. Refresh the page after some time to view the discovered VMs.
To view the updated VM discovery results, click the Refresh icon to load the latest VM data.Select the virtual machines you want to configure.
For ease of operation, you can filter the virtual machines according to their configuration status and select the ones with Not Configured status.Click Configure for Backup.
In the Configure for Backup page, enter the following details:
Field | Description |

Servers can be grouped based on similar attributes like server type, server location, and operating system. You can either: Choose an existing or the default administrative group. Create a new administrative group. SeeManage administrative groups. |
Backup Settings | Storage: Region where you want to store the backups of backup recovery points. You cannot change storage later.

Choose an existing or the default backup policy. Create a new backup policy. For more information on creating a new policy, see Manage backup policy. |
Backup Proxy | You can select the backup proxy that will be used to back up the selected VMs. |
10. Click Save. The status of the virtual machines is updated to Configured, and they are also listed on the Configured VMs page.
FAQ
What happens when a node is discovered as a part of a cluster and no proxies are deployed?
A proxy is mandatory for data protection. If it’s not deployed on a discovered node, you won't be able to back up or protect its data.
In such a scenario, no proxy will be available for selection on the Configure for Backup page, and you cannot configure VM for backup. The Configured VMs page will display the following status message:
No virtual machines are configured for backup
