Reconfigure virtual machines configured for backup
Updated over a week ago

Enterprise Workloads Editions: βœ… Business | βœ… Enterprise | βœ… Elite

Overview

You can reconfigure your virtual machines if you want to:

  • Change the administrative group

  • Change the backup policy

πŸ“ Note
You cannot change the storage assigned to a virtual machine.

After you reconfigure the virtual machine, it is backed up as per the schedule defined in the backup policy associated with it. The backup recovery points are retained as per the retention settings in the backup policy. Druva uses the specified Backup proxy pool.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Management Console.

  2. Select your Organization if Organizations are enabled.

  3. On the menu bar, click Protect > Nutanix AHV.

  4. On the Prism page, click the Prism Element or Prism Central that has the VM to be reconfigured. Alternatively, select the Prism Element or Prism Central from the Prism dropdown menu.

  5. Click Configured VMs under the selected Prism Element or Prism Central.

  6. Click the VM that needs to be reconfigured.

  7. On the VM details page, click more options in the top right corner, and then select Reconfigure.

To create a new administrative group:

      2. In the New Administrative Group dialog box enter the name of the administrative group and an optional description.

      3. Click Save.

    • Backup Policy:Select another backup policy from the dropdown list or click + New Backup Policy to create a new backup policy.

    • Local Storage (Optional):

If you wish to use CloudCache as local storage, select Map to CloudCache.

      πŸ“Note
Nutanix AHV supports CloudCache R3. If you do not have any device with CloudCache R3, this option will be disabled. In that case, go to Manage CloudCache by following the link on the screen and configure a new CloudCache R3 device.

If you select Map to CloudCache, you will see two new dropdowns:

CloudCache - Select the CloudCache device you want to use. Note that this CloudCache device should be on the same local area network and have CloudCache R3.

Retain backups for - Select the days you want to retain the local backup on the CloudCache device.

πŸ“ Note
The reconfiguration fails if the new administrative group is associated with storage different from the one the virtual machine is currently using. For example, the reconfiguration fails if the new administrative group is associated with the us-east storage and the virtual machine is currently using an administrative group associated with the ap-south storage.
