Restore Azure Blob Storage Data from a Backup Set

Updated over 2 weeks ago

After your Blob Storage environment has been successfully backed up, you can perform a file level restore of your data.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Management Console.

  2. On the console, from the top menu, select the Organization.

  3. Select Protect > Go to Azure > All Subscriptions. Select your subscription.

  4. Select Blob Storage > Backup Sets.

  5. From the Backup Sets list, select the backup set you want to restore from and click Restore. You can use the search options to locate and select the exact files and folders needed for restoration.

  6. On the Restore Location tab, select the restore destination and click Next.

    • Restore to original location: Restores data to the source storage account with original settings. The Directory Structure is preserved in this case.

    • Restore to alternate location: Enter the following location details where you want to restore the data:

      1. Subscription: Select the Azure subscription from the list of subscriptions associated with your tenant.

      2. Storage Account: Select the Storage Account from the dropdown list.

      3. Region: The region gets auto-populated with the storage region corresponding to the specified storage account.

      4. Container (Optional): This is an optional field. You can select an existing container or choose to create a new container by specifying the name of the container.

  7. Click Next. Then, configure Advanced Settings:

    • Restore Settings: You can choose the overwriting behavior when restoring to a destination where the blob already exists. You can choose from the following options:

      1. Always overwrite: Existing data gets overwritten.

      2. Overwrite, if the original is older: Existing data is overwritten when its date/time of modification is older than that of the data being restored.

      3. Always skip: The existing files do not get overwritten. Only files that do not exist are restored.

    • Directory Structure: Select Preserve original directory structure to restore blob as well as container properties.
โ€‹Note: If this option is not selected, some files could get overwritten during the restore process.

  8. Click Finish to proceed and finalize the restore job.

Search for specific files and folders

Use the search feature to search for files (objects) and folders (directory or virtual directory) across recovery points in a backup set.

You can use one or more filters to narrow down the search results. Click the search bar to view the available filters.

For example, if you want to restore files (objects) and folders (directory or virtual directory) that start with the word exl20 modified between 14 July 2025 and 15 September 2025, expand Advanced Options and select the following:

  • File or folder name: exl20

  • Date Modified:14/07/2025 to 15/09/2025

Here are some examples of how you can use the search filters:

Search by File Names

Exact name match

To search for the exact filename, use the Match exact name checkbox. Enter the complete filename in the search bar, excluding the file extension, and then click Search.

๐Ÿ“ Note

Selecting the Match exact name checkbox disables the Advanced options to search Blob Tag, File Type, File Extension, and other fields.

Partial name match

If you do not select the Match exact name check box, then you are performing a partial file name search. You can search for files using substrings.

For example, you can search for a file named Azure_Storage_1_B_ZA.vob using search terms such as Azure or Storage.

The search term must be a minimum of 3 characters and a maximum of 64 characters, and should be a prefix for a partial name search.

๐Ÿ“ Note

โ€‹Druva does not support performing a search on a partial name using a search term starting with a special character such as an underscore. For example, to search for a 10_11_B_file_1DZBZA.vob, the valid search terms are:

  • 10_

  • 11_B

  • file_

  • 10_11_B_file_1DZBZA.vob

Using _B_ or _file_ will not yield any results.

Advanced Options

Under this section, the selected options or filters are applied concurrently. As you refine your selections, the results will be narrowed to items that match every parameter.

Blob Tag

You can search objects based on Blob index tags. You can specify multiple tags.

  1. Enter your tagโ€™s key and press Enter.

  2. Enter your tagโ€™s value and press Enter.

Example: To search for all PDF files that were tagged for the 'Q4-2025' project and modified in September 2025, you would use the following filters:

Filter Name

Value

Object Tag

Key: Project Value: Q4-2025

File Extension

Search for files by one or more extensions. If you have selected a File Type, this field is auto-populated by the extensions included in that file type. You can also enter extensions manually, if you have additional file search requirements.

An extension can have a maximum length of 10 characters.

๐Ÿ“Note

Enter the search terms without periods or regular expressions.

File Size

Enter a file size range to search for files by file size. You can search for file sizes in KBs, MBs, and GBs. The maximum size must be greater than the minimum size.

Date Modified

You can search for files created or modified between the selected dates.

For example, when you enter a date range such as 15/03/2025 (15 March 2025) to 31/03/2025 (31 March 2025), files modified between 15 March 2025, 12:00 AM to 31 March 2025, 11:59 PM are searched.

In the Date Modified field, you can select a date in either From or To filter, or both of them.

For example, if you select only the From date filter, all files created or modified after the From date are listed in the search results.

You must choose a date after 1 January 1970.

Search results

The Search Results section displays the files and folders that match the search criteria. You can hover over the search query in the search bar to view the applied search filters. You can also modify the search query at any point in time.

The Name field under Search Results is followed by a sort icon. Initially, the sort icon is in a neutral state, meaning the Name field is not sorted in either ascending or descending order.
