Back up AWS S3 buckets

Updated yesterday

You can choose to automate your backup process for AWS S3 buckets using backup policies. A backup policy specifies the backup schedule and retention criteria for backup jobs. AWS Workloads then initiates snapshots of the S3 buckets and stores them in the region specified in the policy, based on the retention criteria defined.

While backup policies are automatically executed within the defined schedule, AWS Workloads Management Console offers options to execute your backup policies on-demand. With the Backup Now feature, you can generate a manual (point in time) backup of a specific S3 bucket.

To perform a manual backup:

  1. Log in to the AWS Workloads Management Console. Navigate to Account and select an account.

  2. Click S3 in the left pane.

  3. Go to the Backup Sets tab. It lists all the AWS S3 buckets that have backup sets.

    • Backup Set: Name of the backup set configured for the AWS S3 bucket.

    • S3 Bucket: Name of the AWS S3 bucket.

    • # Objects: Number of objects inside the AWS S3 bucket.

    • Backup Policy: Backup policy for the backup set.

    • Backup Content: Backup rules configured for the backup set.

    • Backup Enabled: Whether the backup is enabled or not.

    • Configuration Mode: Whether the configured backup is manual or automatic.

    • Last Backup: Time when the backup was last taken.

  4. Select a backup set.

  5. Click Backup Now. A backup job is created.
