You can choose to automate your backup process for RDS clusters using backup policies. A backup policy specifies the backup schedule and retention criteria for backup jobs. While backup policies are automatically executed within the defined schedule, AWS Workloads (CloudRanger) offers options to execute your backup policies on-demand. With the Execute Now feature, you can generate a manual (point-in-time) backup of your RDS clusters to our secure Cloud storage.

πŸ“ Note

Snapshots that have been encrypted with AWS-managed KMS encryption keys cannot be shared. Instead these will need to be encrypted with a customer managed key (CMK). This is required to copy an encrypted snapshot that has been shared from another AWS account. In these cases, you will need to have access to the KMS key that was used to encrypt the snapshot.

To execute a policy on demand:

  1. On the top navigation bar, click Policies and then select the policy you wish to execute.
Note: To configure an RDS cluster for air-gapped Cloud storage, ensure that you select a policy that is enabled for RDS Airgap Backup.

  2. Click Execute Now to initiate the backup policy.

The subsequent backups that are generated on policy execution may be reviewed on the Restore Points page.

πŸ“ Note

Use the Air-Gapped column to locate restore points that are backed up to our secure air-gapped Cloud.

Navigate to the Jobs page to view the backup job and the details of the policy execution.
